i just knew the pool would
be drained
a discarded white plastic chair
sits adjacent some
rotting palm fronds
against that stained
cinder-block wall

sunburnt paisleys
faded near yellow to white

sand is a final frontier
there in
that bloodred
velvet foyer's ashtray
we will
see the writing
